Luella’s guide to English style

Looks like the rumours were true, and Luella WAS penning a book in her absence from fashion design. In a routine browse of amazon I came across the above image!

'Luella's Guide to English Style' is up for pre-order it on amazon, with a release date of the 14th October. I have high hopes for this book seeing as how I, like pretty much everyone else, was besotted with her clothing.
Will it answer all the important Luella-related questions?!

How do I snag Luella clothing straight off the catwalk, as in 5 minutes after? Yes I'm talking to you Alexa Chung!

Have a foxy Xmas

Call me sad, but I appreciate a good window display. There are some amazing efforts in London right now, but my favourite this Christmas has to be Liberty's windows, dressed by Luella Bartley. You can see all the British Xmas traditions including the questionable festive foods and your elderly relative's royal crockery collection. And let's be honest, who wouldn't love a giant red tinsel bird in their stocking?!








I'm also in love with the fabulous Shona Heath's Topshop windows on Oxford Street. Unfortunately I couldn't get any good photos without confused looking tourists in the middle so I resorted to the website's picture. I don't think the images do either of these displays justice so I suggest getting yourself down there while you can!

A sign of the times

With a headline like that you know it's not going to be pretty. Now I always thought I didn't want to put anything negative on my blog, it's not what I'm about, but the last couple of days require me to go all emo on you, minus the all black attire and terrible music.

First Gemma Ward was supposed to have a comeback in fashion week. Fashion week came and went and there was no sign of every one's favourite 'Australian Alien'. So the rumours began circulating, but nothing came of it. Then as if from nowhere, over Halloween (Halloween miracle perhaps..?) Gemma appeared in New York, 'celebrating her 22nd birthday', allegedly having dressed up as a 'crazed Elvis fan'. As much that mental image was amusing and simultaneously puzzling, everyone began to see this as her potential comeback. Only a few days later and the rumour mill is churning once again, this time suggesting Gemma has given up modelling altogether. The most controversial reason for this being that it is because she has gained weight. Now I don't know about you, but I know many people who love Gemma and are rooting for her comeback, so I think if that's the reason that is really sad.

Now I know what you're thinking, how can there be more?! Well unfortunately there is.
Today Luella(♥) was 'forced out of business'. Their financial backer has parted ways with the brand following the collapse of the company that produces the clothing. No clothes could be produced so orders could not be met causing the brand to shut down.
Luella was the last fashion house i saw shutting down. Okay, it's no Chanel, but Luella has scored lucrative gigs creating lines for U.S mega brand Target as well as supplying to the masses through high profile shops such as Liberty, as well as on the high street in Urban Outfitters.

I'm thinking maybe the people who won the massive EuroMillions lottery jackpot this week should invest? I mean how many gold bath tubs and crystal can a couple from Wales/ Team of IT people buy??

Oh Mickey you're so fine

Fashion's greats such as Luella, Giles, House of Holland and celebrities such as Geri Halliwell and Estelle have all gotten their craft on and combined forces for the buy one give twice auction to benefit Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.

The hats will be sold through an auction, beginning Tuesday 5th May at 11am.

Marc my words

If Marc Jacobs' Louis Vuitton Fall collection were a Pokemon, It would be Ditto. Basically what I'm saying is I've seen a LOT of this stuff in other shows. Luckily, Marc decided to imitate/mirror some really successful collections, making his show a veritable pick n mix of the fashon world. Either the designers are all on the same wavelengths or they are sharing alike in the economic crisis...

Luella: the magazine!

The rumours circulated...and now there is confirmation!
Luella will be producing her own magazine!
The first issue is said to feature it-kids from the New York area, in spreads shot on location at swanky Manhattan apartments. The styling will be by a former Teen Vogue employee (unfortunately not the Conrad...haha).

Word on the old grapevine is that the magazine is likely to be bi-anually, with s/s and a/w issues.

London native Jourdan Dunn is the first cover, following her appearance in Luella's s/s 09 show.

I really hope that the magazine pursues a more unconventional route in it's approach to layout and spreads in a magazine market already fit to burst. But juging by Luella's amazing collections I doubt there will be much to worry about...
